Monument-topped hill with classic skyline view.
Calton Hill is the low hill at the east end of Princes Street, and one of the easiest big views in Edinburgh — a few minutes’ climb gets you a panorama over the Old Town, the Castle and out to the Forth. It’s crowned by a cluster of monuments, chief among them the National Monument, a half-finished replica of the Parthenon, and the telescope-shaped Nelson Monument. A stunning spot at dusk. Free and open, a short walk up from Waverley station.
