St Cuthbert’s sits at the west end of Princes Street Gardens, below the Castle rock, with a tall steeple that’s a landmark from the valley. There’s been a church on this site for many centuries, though the present building is largely late-Victorian. Its churchyard is the resting place of a string of notable Edinburgh figures, including the writer Thomas de Quincey. Open to visitors and free. Haymarket station is under a kilometre to the west.
