Corsham grew wealthy on wool and golden Bath stone, and its high street still runs between mellow Georgian and older frontages. Peacocks from Corsham Court wander out of the park and along the streets. At the far end stand the Hungerford Almshouses, founded in 1668 by Lady Margaret Hungerford, with their schoolroom alongside. Corsham Court’s grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown.
