Castle Combe has been called England’s prettiest village since a newspaper gave it the title in 1962, and the crowds still come for it. Honey-stone cottages line the slope down to a packhorse bridge over the By Brook, below a covered medieval market cross that marks the wool market granted in 1440. Spielberg filmed War Horse around the cross. The Castle Inn stands nearby. Chippenham station is about 9km away.
