Every May, Badminton House’s park becomes the biggest date on the eventing calendar: the Duke of Beaufort set up the Badminton Horse Trials here in 1949, and it’s run most years since. The house and gardens themselves stay private for most of the year, opening for just a few days each spring and summer when the walled garden’s tulips and roses are worth the trip. Public footpaths cross the wider parkland year-round if you just want a walk. Horton Court and Dodington House are both within reach.
