Newark Park began as a Tudor hunting lodge, built around 1550 for Sir Nicholas Poyntz, a courtier of Henry VIII, and remodelled into a country house over later centuries. It stands on the Cotswold escarpment above the Ozleworth valley near Wotton-under-Edge, with gardens and some 700 acres of estate walks through the surrounding woods. Now National Trust, it opens to visitors on set days. Cam & Dursley station is about 10km north.
