Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
On a hillside above Madingley, west of Cambridge, a curving Wall of the Missing runs down to rows of white headstones set in mown grass. This is the only American Second World War cemetery in Britain, with some 3,800 graves and over 5,000 more names carved on the wall. Entry is free, and the visitor centre explains the air and sea campaigns fought from these shores. Cambridge station is about 6km south-east.
