Histon Road Cemetery
Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
Histon Road Cemetery is a quiet Victorian burial ground laid out in 1843 by J.C. Loudon, the era’s leading writer on cemetery design, for the Cambridge General Cemetery Company. It’s the only cemetery Loudon completed to his own plan without later alteration, still following his tidy grid layout around a Tudor-style lodge. Long closed to new burials, it’s cared for today by Cambridge City Council and the Friends of Histon Road Cemetery, and open to wander at any reasonable hour, free. The River Cam is a short walk south-east.
