In the wooded Esk valley at Egton Bridge, the Postgate Inn stood in as the ‘Black Dog’ in the TV series Heartbeat. These days it’s a well-thought-of dining inn with rooms, a few steps from Egton station on the Esk Valley line, and a good place to end the riverside walk over from Grosmont.
