Glaisdale climbs steeply up from the Esk, a former ironstone village of stone terraces. Down by the river stands Beggar’s Bridge, a slender single-arched packhorse bridge, with old stepping stones and a wooded riverside walk beside it. Trains stop at Glaisdale on the Esk Valley Line, so it’s an easy car-free arrival. Egton Bridge is the next village downstream.
