Fans of Heartbeat will recognise Goathland as Aidensfield — the sprawling moor-edge village of sheep-cropped greens where the series was filmed. Its station stood in for Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films, and steam trains still call on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Even without the screen fame it’s a lovely spot, with a walk down to Mallyan Spout waterfall. Grosmont is up the line to the north.
