Barely changed in generations, the Birch Hall Inn is two tiny bars set either side of a working sweet shop in the moorland hamlet of Beck Hole, pouring local ale and its own celebrated beer cake. It is a proper unspoilt survivor. A pint here rounds off the short walk to the waterfall at Thomason Foss, or a longer wander over to Mallyan Spout near Goathland.
