The Brace of Pheasants stands deep in the Plush valley, a 16th-century thatched inn well off the main roads north of Dorchester. It has open fires, a garden, rooms if you’re staying, and a kitchen that leans on Dorset produce. Good walking country all around. Maiden Newton station is the nearest railhead, roughly 12km west, so most people arrive by car.
