Milton Abbas
Local highlightMilton Abbas is a model village of 1780, built when Lord Milton — the Earl of Dorchester — swept away the old market town of Middleton because it spoiled the view from his mansion. William Chambers and Capability Brown laid out a fresh street of near-identical white thatched cottages, set in pairs up a curving valley below the woods. It survives almost exactly as designed.
