A Georgian house in parkland near Stinsford, now an agricultural college whose grounds open to visitors. The Edwardian formal gardens step down in walled and hedged terraces to a lake, and the estate holds national plant collections of salvias and penstemons. There’s an animal park too, which makes it an easy family stop. Free entry, though there’s a parking charge; Dorchester South station is under 3km south-west, and Thomas Hardy’s Stinsford church is just next door.
