Wimpole is Cambridgeshire’s grandest country house, standing at the end of a long avenue in parkland reshaped by Capability Brown. Behind it are a walled kitchen garden and a Georgian home farm still worked with rare-breed livestock. The National Trust runs the estate, with an admission charge; members go free. Shepreth station is about 6km south-east.
