Williamson Park spreads over a hill above Lancaster, a Victorian park given to the town by the wealthy Williamson family. Its centrepiece is the great domed Ashton Memorial, built by Lord Ashton in memory of his wife; there’s also a butterfly house, woodland paths and grand views out over Morecambe Bay. The park is free, though the attractions charge. Lancaster station is about 1.5km to the west.
