Heysham is the old heart of the Morecambe Bay coast, a knot of narrow lanes and stone cottages above the shore - a world away from the ferry port next door. Climb past St Peter’s Church to find the ruin of St Patrick’s Chapel and, cut into the bare rock beside it, a row of ancient stone graves looking out over the bay. Local shops still sell the traditional nettle beer. Heysham Port station is about 2km to the south-west.
