Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
On the headland above Heysham, St Patrick’s Chapel is a roofless little ruin from around the 8th or 9th century, its doorway still standing. What draws people is the row of graves cut straight into the bare rock beside it — body-shaped hollows, each with a socket that once held a stone cross, looking out over Morecambe Bay. Free, open access, a short climb up from the village. Heysham Port station is about 2km away.
