St Peter’s, by the Nene at Irthlingborough, has an unusual tower that stands slightly apart from the church, joined to it by a porch-like room — a survival from the college of priests founded here in 1388. Inside, the chest tomb of Sir Thomas Cheney (d.1513) was later remade into the altar. It’s open to visitors, and Wellingborough station is about 5km to the south-west.
