Wicksteed Park opened in 1921 as one of Britain’s first amusement parks, laid out by the engineer Charles Wicksteed, who made his name manufacturing playground swings and slides. It keeps some heritage rides and a boating lake within a big open green on the edge of Kettering. The park is free to enter, with rides paid for separately. Kettering station is about 2km to the north-west.
