The Saxon tower of All Saints’ is the thing to see at Earls Barton — built around 970 and covered in thin pilaster strips that make a raised pattern up its face, it’s one of the finest surviving Anglo-Saxon towers in the country. The village grew on shoemaking, a trade it kept for generations. It sits above the Nene valley, with Wellingborough station about 6km to the north-east.
