The gardens at Castle Ashby run to 35 acres around the Marquess of Northampton’s house, with an Italian garden closed off by a grand Orangery that Matthew Digby Wyatt built in 1872. Beyond lie an arboretum and parkland reshaped by Capability Brown from 1761, plus a small menagerie that pleases younger visitors. The estate shares its name with the village of Castle Ashby at its gates. The gardens open most days of the week, year round, on a paid ticket.
