The poet William Cowper lived at Orchard Side in Olney from 1768, and kept a small summer house in the garden he called his “verse manufactory” — its walls still carry the names admirers scratched after his death. Two period plots survive behind the house: a summer flower garden and a restored kitchen garden. Both open with the Cowper and Newton Museum, on a paid ticket.
