Salcey Forest
Local highlightApproximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
Salcey Forest, on the clay south of Northampton, was a royal hunting forest and still holds oaks several hundred years old, some of them hollow giants you pass on the Elephant Walk trail. A treetop walkway once climbed into the canopy here, but it closed in 2018 and Forestry England has confirmed it won’t reopen. The waymarked walking and cycling trails remain open and free, with a parking charge.
