Francis Lovell, Lord Chamberlain to Richard III, brought a Somerset mason north to raise the tower of St Mary’s at Titchmarsh in the late 15th century — a five-stage Perpendicular tower that Pevsner called the noblest village tower outside Somerset. The village of Titchmarsh sits around it, near Thrapston, and the church is open to visitors.
