Dame Miriam Rothschild renamed this thatched, stone-built pub in the 1960s after the chequered skipper, a butterfly her family’s Ashton estate was known for. It overlooks the green of the model village near Oundle, its pub sign said to be worked from nails. Inside is a big open-plan bar and restaurant, rebuilt after a fire in the 1990s, with food the main draw.
