Fotheringhay
Local highlightChurch and castle mound where Mary Stuart died.
Two turns of English history happened at Fotheringhay: Richard III was born in the castle here in 1452, and Mary, Queen of Scots was executed in its hall in 1587. Only the grassy motte survives above the Nene now. Over the honey-stone cottages rises the church of St Mary and All Saints, its octagonal lantern tower a Yorkist landmark seen for miles. The Falcon does good food in the village.
