St Edith's Church, Bishop Wilton
St Edith’s sits on a bank at the head of Bishop Wilton, a village below the Wolds escarpment. It keeps a superb Norman doorway carved with beasts and figures, but the real surprise is Victorian: a lavish restoration paid for by Sir Tatton Sykes, whose patterned tiled floor was modelled on one in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Open and free to look round.
