Deep in the dry chalk valleys of the Wolds, the Cross Keys is the only pub for miles around tiny Thixendale — a welcome sight for walkers off the Yorkshire Wolds Way. It’s friendly and unfussy, with food served, and worth planning a route that lands you here for lunch. Malton is the nearest station, about 12km to the north-west.
