Thixendale is about as remote as the Yorkshire Wolds get — a single street of houses hidden where several steep, dry chalk valleys meet, well off any through-route. Walkers know it as a junction on the Yorkshire Wolds Way, set in the sweep of Wolds country that David Hockney made famous in his paintings. There’s a pub and little else. Malton is the nearest station, some 12km north-west.
