The gardens at Sledmere House wrap a Georgian mansion on the high Wolds in parkland laid out to a Capability Brown plan of 1777. Nearer the house there’s an 18th-century walled rose garden and a knot garden, with a paved sculpture court added in 1911 after a fire. It has long been the seat of the Sykes family — the same family behind the estate churches on the Sykes Churches Trail, including All Saints next door. The parkland and gardens open through the season from spring to early autumn, with the house itself shown by guided tour on selected days; paid entry, so check the current days before setting out.
