Sledmere is an estate village built around Sledmere House, the Georgian seat of the Sykes family since the 18th century, set in landscaped parkland. By the road stand two unusual monuments: a tall Eleanor-style cross turned into a war memorial, and the Waggoners’ Memorial, carved with scenes of Wolds farmhands who marched off to the First World War. Driffield is the nearest station, about 12km to the south-east.
