Church of St Lawrence, Warkworth
St Lawrence’s stands at the top of Warkworth, where a loop of the Coquet almost encircles the village beneath its castle. It’s an almost entirely Norman church — a rarity in Northumberland — keeping a rib-vaulted chancel of the 12th century. The site here is old: King Ceolwulf gave the church to the monks of Lindisfarne back in 737. Open daily, with Alnmouth station about 5km north.
