Ruby Bay, just east of Elie, takes its name from the tiny garnets — “Elie rubies” — that used to wash up in the sand, and you can still hunt for the dark red grains among the pebbles. It’s a small rocky cove below the Elie Ness lighthouse, good for a scramble and a swim. There’s a car park right behind the beach. Leven station is about 12km to the west.
