Below the West Braes, at the western end of Pittenweem, there has been a sea pool in some form since at least 1895. Locals rebuilt the pool after the Second World War, and in its heyday it had a chute, a diving board, a café and changing rooms, but it then sat derelict for decades. A community charity, the West Braes Project, raised £270,000 to mend a breach in the wall and replace the broken valve, and the pool reopened in 2021. Steps built into the rocks around the water give it the look of an amphitheatre. The sea washes over at high tide and refills the pool; swimming is free, the water is unheated and there are no lifeguards, so check the tide and the sea before you get in. A hut at the entrance sells tea and cake, and together with the mini golf it raises money for upkeep. Another restored pool, Cellardyke Tidal Pool, is about 4km north-east along the coast.
