Pittenweem is the busiest working fishing port left in the East Neuk, and the harbour still hosts a morning fish market when the boats are in. The name comes from the Gaelic for ‘place of the cave’, after St Fillan’s Cave, a 7th-century shrine tucked up a wynd behind the shore. Each August the village fills for the Pittenweem Arts Festival, when studios and front rooms open as galleries. The West End Bar sits near the harbour.
