St Monans church stands almost on the tideline at the west edge of the village, close enough to the water that spray reaches it in a storm — reckoned one of the nearest churches to the sea anywhere in Scotland. It dates from the 14th century, built (so the story goes) by David II in thanks after surviving a shipwreck offshore. Open to visitors and free. The harbour is a short walk east.
