Summerhill Force spills over a lip on Bow Lee Beck in Upper Teesdale, and you can walk right in behind the falling water into Gibson’s Cave — a shallow recess said to have sheltered a local outlaw who took the name Gibson. It’s a gentle, well-signed walk of under a mile from the Bowlees visitor centre and car park, though the path can be muddy near the beck. A handy stop if you’re touring the bigger Teesdale falls nearby. Stanhope station is about 13km to the north-east.
