Roughly opposite High Force, one of England’s most powerful waterfalls, the High Force Hotel is a stone roadside inn in upper Teesdale. The falls (the biggest in the country by sheer volume of water in full spate) are a short walk across the road down a woodland path. The hotel serves food and has rooms, so it makes a handy base for walking this stretch of the Pennine Way. Stanhope station is about 15km away over the moors.
