Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
Holwick Scars are a line of dark dolerite crags standing above the hamlet of Holwick in upper Teesdale, part of the same Whin Sill that carries the water over High Force downstream. The hard rock makes them a favourite with climbers, and footpaths run below the cliffs for walkers who just want the view up the dale. It’s open access, but this is remote country — come prepared and check the weather before setting off.
