A set of low, wide steps on the River Ribble, Stainforth Force sits beside an old arched packhorse bridge in a lovely stretch of the Dales. In autumn it’s a spot to watch salmon leaping upriver, best after rain has lifted the flow. It’s a short, easy walk from Stainforth village, down a lane and across the bridge, though the rocks by the water get slippery. Settle station is under 4km to the south.
