St Oswald's, Horton-in-Ribblesdale
If you’re taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, St Oswald’s is right by the traditional start at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, beneath Pen-y-ghent. It’s reckoned the most complete of the Norman churches in the Dales, keeping its Norman nave, south door and a plain tub font. A good, calm place to look in on before or after 26 miles of hard walking. Open daily, and Horton has its own station on the Settle–Carlisle line, a few minutes’ walk away.
