If you’re taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Horton-in-Ribblesdale is where it starts and finishes — the classic 24-mile round of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The village strings along the Ribble beneath Pen-y-ghent; its café clocked walkers out and back in for fifty years until it closed in 2019. It’s on the Settle–Carlisle line, so you can arrive by train. Stainforth is the next village down the dale.
