Gaping Gill is one of the largest cave chambers in Britain — big enough, people like to say, to park a cathedral inside — with Fell Beck pouring in as one of England’s tallest unbroken waterfalls. It sits on the flank of Ingleborough above Clapham. The pothole itself is on open moor and free to reach on foot, but the only way down into the chamber is on a winch that local caving clubs rig over a couple of bank holiday weekends each year. It’s free to go down; you pay to be hauled back up. Ingleborough Cave is passed on the walk in.
