Timber-framed medieval streets and narrow alleys run down to the meeting of the Severn and Avon at Tewkesbury, all overlooked by the great abbey, a Norman church with one of the largest surviving Norman crossing towers in England. The bloody Battle of Tewkesbury was fought just south of town in 1471. Ashchurch for Tewkesbury station is about 4km east.
