Massive Norman tower and medieval abbey church.
When Henry VIII’s men came in 1539, the people of Tewkesbury bought their abbey church for £453 — the value of its lead and bells — and so kept it whole. It is one of the grandest Norman churches in England, crowned by a massive square crossing tower, with medieval tombs and monuments crowded inside. Ashchurch for Tewkesbury station is about 4km east.
