One of the most complete Anglo-Saxon churches left in England, St Mary’s began as a minster by the Severn and was already a religious community by the early 9th century. Saxon carving survives inside and out, including a celebrated font and beast-head stops, and it is still the village’s parish church. A short walk away is Odda’s Chapel, another rare Saxon survival.
