A thatched timber church is the surprise at Sandy Lane, built in 1896 as a mission chapel for this Bowood estate hamlet and reckoned one of very few thatched wooden churches in England. The rest is a short row of chocolate-box thatched cottages between Chippenham and Devizes, with the old Bath road running through.
