Bowood has been the Lansdowne family’s home since 1754, its interiors by Robert Adam and its park by Capability Brown — a mile-long lake, a cascade and a Doric temple among the trees. The separate woodland garden opens for about six weeks in spring for two miles of rhododendron walks. Paid entry between Calne and Chippenham; much of the house was demolished in 1956, so one wing is what you tour today.
